Although the game shows significant signs of age today, Gran Turismo 4 was an incredible technical achievement for and set a high benchmark for driving simulators that wouldn't be topped for a number of years. Topping this list at an eye-watering Much like Persona 4 , Atlus' Persona 3 differentiated itself from the crowded RPG genre with an emphasis on social simulation.
As is common in the series, a significant portion of the story puts players in a Japanese high school. For those who are new to the series, this time spent in school may initially seem like little more than setup for the rest of the story, but it soon becomes clear that the relationships that players develop in school intertwine with the combat.

My friend got it later. I had stuff to do i. When he beat the game, I asked how long it took. I almost cried because I never thought I'd get it done. Is this a long time just for the storyline? Right now I'm around level 28 and about to go to the royal hunting grounds, about 52 hours in.
Am I behind schedule? You might remember me from Christ, years ago! I came here after playing a demo and saying I was getting the game soon. User Info: chaoyun2k chaoyun2k 13 years ago 5 The Royal Hunting Grounds at 52 hours, hmm, you are being thorough it would seem.
User Info: guinness4life guinness4life 13 years ago 6 took me about to beat it. An essential game for any rpg fan. Hands down! Story kept me interested the whole time and the characters, graphics were great. I got to the extra dragons after beating the main story. I lost my save as I'm writing this many years later, but I think I was at the black dragon. Overall best game I have every played to date. Find next city, talk to all NPCs, go to next dungeon, repeat.
No opportunities for non-linearity or role playing. Exceptional music, sub par but joyful story that wasn't that boring, and amazing RPG combat that wasn't stale after 5 hours. Vast place to explore, fun character designs. Story spans a little to long. It doesn't do much in terms of innovation, but rather it takes everything that people love about Japanese RPGs and thrives on it.
With its languid pace, frequent loading, and incessant random battles, this classically styled JRPG is not for the impatient gamer. Vintage enthusiasts however will be enthralled with DQVIII's amazing cel shaded graphics, huge and perfectly scaled game world, orchestrated OST, charming protagonists, and massive overall experience.
For those with the fortitude and verve for such a long journey though, a masterpiece draws near! The overall art design was pretty amazing. Besides that the overall story was pretty lame and very sparse. The music gets old very fast and the orchestral arrangement was very annoying to me, thankfully you can turn off the background music in the options.
Most of the game is crawling through long dungeons fighting easy monsters over and over again. There was no real challenge at all through the game except for a couple of the bosses. The combat is pretty boring because you will be saving your magic and abilities for the boss battles, so basically you will be doing the same basic attacks over and over for about 70 hours or so. Would have been much better if the game was compressed to hours in length.
AS far as enemies I thought some were lame, like the two bell peppers on a stick called Capsichums. Many enemies were just colored differently like Jailcats and Candycats, but they got harder as the game progressed, the hardest part of the game was trying to get all of the alchemy items, completing the item and monster list, and actually beating the Monster Arena. The controls are easy and can be picked up quickly, I like the fact any of my party members really could be the party lead, and I could control them on the world map, I wished there where more party characters than the Hero, Yangus, Jessica, and Angelo.
Yet the party given was a good party. Monster Battles were random encounters, fighting was turn based. The game is a rather straight up old school turn-based dungeon crawling, level crunching RPG, my type of game when I am in the mood.
If the monsters were just a little better I would have given it a 10 and if it didn't cause strange dreams as well. I had the feeling while playing this that all the good monsters were taken by other games so they came up with some like the Koosh Ball type eye in a boot, and the dancing devils and their underpants dance, or the cats, bunnies, and buffalo birds, but still it had the slimes, skeletons, zombies, that are more common place too.
Worth the money and a must for any old school RPG fan looking for a more modern RPG that holds many of the older elements. Lengthy, but fun and old school. With VIII, the graphics got a huge, beautiful upgrade, though the core gameplay remained the same.
The game is also very long, the story alone taking longer than the average RPG's 40 hours. The more you psyche a character up, the higher their tension will rise, until they finally reach an insane state known as super-high tension! This system allows you to perfectly tailor your team to your liking. Once assembled, your crack squad can take part in the fiercely contested tournaments held at the monster arena, and can even come to your aid in battle! Even the most unassuming objects could be ingredients for the greatest items of all!
Seek out the recipes hidden all over the world, and see if you can cook up something truly special! This time around, there are three exciting activities to enjoy: bingo, slot machines and roulette! Just don't get so caught up in the action that you forget your adventure entirely! It would be just a minor update, taking less than an hour I imagine, yet could improve the experience drastically for gamers. DQ deserves every bit as much attention as the final fantasy series, and would benefit even more if you could eventually add MFI controller support, but at the very least, please adjust the position of directional controls..
This is one of the most underrated games of all time with great art design, plot line, leveling, monster collecting, open world, not to mention one of the best OSTs ever made. I just hope that more people play this through and game developers start to take notes on what a perfect game looks like.
